Design an Earthquake Early Warning system in your Classroom

Type of Resource

Students interpret observations of several earthquakes to discover that they release energy as two different types of seismic waves. Recognizing a pattern in the speed and strength of these waves, students design an earthquake early warning network to protect their school. They compare their network's performance to their classmates' and revise their network so that it maximizes the advanced warning. Learn about a hazard using data -> develop a technology to mitigate the impact of the hazard

Performance Expectations

MS-ESS3-2   Analyze and interpret data on natural hazards to forecast future catastrophic events and inform the development of technologies to mitigate their effects.
