Performance Expectations

MS-ESS2-4   Develop a model to describe the cycling of water through Earth's systems driven by energy from the sun and the force of gravity.

Science and Engineering Practices

  • Communicate scientific and/or technical information or ideas (e.g. about phenomena and/or the process of development and the design and performance of a proposed process or system) in multiple formats (including orally, graphically, textually, and mathematically).

Disciplinary Core Ideas

  • Water’s movements—both on the land and underground—cause weathering and erosion, which change the land’s surface features and create underground formations.

Crosscutting Concepts

  • Models can be used to represent systems and their interactions—such as inputs, processes and outputs—and energy and matter flows within systems.
  • The transfer of energy can be tracked as energy flows through a natural system.
